Vladivostok Commercial Sea Port, part of the FESCO Transport Group under the management of Rosatom State Corporation, has become the first in Russia to deploy machine vision technology for automated container inspections.

A camera-equipped portal installed at the quay captures images of all container surfaces as trucks pass through. The system uses computer vision to extract and upload key data into the port’s information system, including container numbers, seal presence, markings, and any visible damage. All software components are built on domestic platforms.

Port Digital Transformation

Anton Popov, IT director for the Far Eastern region and head of information technology at the port, said the company aims to automate all operational areas using digital tools. The port has already moved to fully paperless document workflows with clients, introduced railcar identification and tracking systems, and deployed smart video analytics.

“The smart container inspection technology helps increase cargo handling intensity and speeds up throughput. It also improves transparency of internal port operations, which is especially important for customers,” he said.
