Russia’s Ministry of Transport is preparing a draft regulation to establish a framework for regular cargo deliveries by unmanned aircraft. Five regions across the country will be selected for testing as part of the project. The drones will be able to carry food, medicines, parcels, and documents.

Routes for this new type of delivery will range from 20 to 100 kilometers and are expected to connect distribution centers with pickup points. The organizers will assess whether drone deliveries are faster and more cost-effective than conventional logistics. They will also identify the tools needed to ensure an optimal flight schedule.

The initial results of the regional selection process are expected to be announced in November at Transport Week. The project is scheduled to run through the end of 2027. Its goal is to move beyond individual trials toward regular cargo operations that can be integrated into day-to-day logistics.
