Researchers at Novosibirsk State University have developed a service to help identify new lithium deposits. The metal is of strategic importance because it is used to manufacture rechargeable batteries.

The new tool is designed to analyze underground brines, which contain the valuable resource. The software combines neural network-based and conventional methods for processing seismic data. It enables specialists to extract information about subsurface geology and build digital models of deposits. The tool combines computer vision algorithms for identifying faults and geological formations with seismic inversion and spectral analysis methods.

“We decided that our expertise should be put to practical use for the benefit of society. We began building an integrated platform that allows specialists to use the most advanced algorithms for analyzing seismic data,” says Vladislav Korchuganov, a researcher at the Gazprom Neft–NSU Scientific and Educational Center.
