Moscow has launched a project called Smart Hospitalisation for patients who require planned inpatient treatment, Deputy Mayor for Social Development Anastasia Rakova said.

According to Rakova, a clinic doctor submits a hospitalisation request through a dedicated digital system, where it is reviewed by specialised hospitals. The patient can then select a convenient date and hospital from the available options directly in their electronic medical record. An electronic hospital referral is generated automatically, while the patient’s clinic doctor tracks the entire hospitalisation process.

Already Delivering Results

“We are already seeing the project deliver results. The number of patients who received a hospital referral but never reached the hospital has fallen by more than a third. Around 90 percent of all issued referrals now result in planned inpatient care,” Rakova said.

Waiting times for hospital admission have already been reduced by one and a half times, while the total number of patients treated in hospitals has increased by 100,000.

The integration of clinics and hospitals on a single digital platform allows patients to be directed more quickly to the appropriate specialists and helps establish unified approaches to treating similar clinical cases.
