Russian Robotics Kits Train the Next Generation of Industrial Engineers

Russia is turning to educational robotics to build a skilled industrial workforce, starting as early as high school.

Two new Russian educational robotics kits—Nerpa and Icarus—were unveiled at the XV International Industrial Exhibition in Yekaterinburg. Designed to support technical training, the kits will be used not only in universities but also in secondary schools.

The Nerpa kit introduces students to underwater robotics. At its core is a remotely operated unmanned underwater vehicle that teaches the principles of assembly, design, configuration, and control of complex deep-sea systems.

The Icarus kit, on the other hand, takes to the skies. It features a multirotor drone that helps students develop piloting skills using FPV (First-Person View) systems and understand the basics of local navigation.

What sets these kits apart is their full-cycle engineering curriculum. Students engage in hands-on activities that span design, setup, and real-time operation. The training encourages experimentation and problem-solving—skills that are critical for future careers in Russia’s industrial sector.
