Russia’s Cybersecurity Rankings Show Steady Growth

Despite geopolitical headwinds and global IT turbulence, Russia’s cybersecurity market is gaining ground. Driven by domestic innovation and strategic import substitution, the country is strengthening its infrastructure, workforce, and global standing.

Climbing the Global Rankings

By 2024, Russia claimed the 9th spot globally in cybersecurity investment, accounting for 2% of the world market, according to TAdviser. While international vendors have largely withdrawn—foreign players held only 7% of the market by 2023—Russia has responded by doubling down on its own capabilities.

The domestic cybersecurity market remains focused on corporate (83%) and B2G (15%) sectors, with B2C making up just 2% of total revenue. Key Russian players include Kaspersky Lab, Positive Technologies, and Rostelecom-Solar. Kaspersky is now the world’s fourth-largest antivirus provider by revenue and the first Russian firm in the Software Top 100 rankings.

From National Infrastructure to Global Outreach

Positive Technologies is pursuing growth in emerging markets like Latin America, the Middle East, North Africa, Southeast Asia, and India. The company participates in global research while localizing solutions for partners open to Russian collaboration.

Rostelecom-Solar runs over 1,500 cybersecurity projects annually and operates platforms like Solar MSS and Solar CyberMir. Its analysts track over 200 billion cyber events daily and respond rapidly to incidents. In mid-2025, the company announced it would expand education and security initiatives into the Global South.

When a global IT outage hit in July 2024 due to issues with CrowdStrike software, Russian companies relying on local tools—such as Kaspersky products—remained unaffected. Experts say this resilience is a direct result of import substitution and the growth of domestic cyber expertise.

Sustainable Growth in a High-Stakes Sector

Between 2022 and 2024, Russia’s cybersecurity market expanded by 56%. In 2024, it reached 299 billion rubles, up 23% from the previous year. Forecasts suggest it could grow to 681 billion rubles by the end of the decade.

As artificial intelligence spawns new threats, digital services expand, and cyberattacks become more sophisticated, demand for robust security will only rise. The Russian cybersecurity sector is evolving into one of the most dynamic segments of the national IT economy.

International Recognition and Talent Development

According to Mordor Intelligence, the top Russian cybersecurity companies of 2024 include Kaspersky Lab, Positive Technologies, and BI.ZONE. Their inclusion in major global reports marks a growing acknowledgment of Russian expertise.

With rising threats and fast-paced tech development, nations are being urged to invest not only in technical solutions, but also in cybersecurity training and education. Russian firms are well-positioned to offer globally competitive services while building local capacity.
