Three Russian IT Companies Open an Innovation Lab in Ufa

Petroleum engineering students are set to study modern digital technologies at a new, purpose-built educational facility.

An innovative IT laboratory for training specialists for the oil industry has opened in Ufa, according to the press service of Astra Group.

The project’s defining feature is that it brings together three companies on a single site: office software developer R7-Office, low-code platform creator BPMSoft, and one of Russia’s leading domestic software vendors, Astra Group. Together, they will train students from Ufa State Petroleum Technological University to work with Russian-made IT products.

The multi-vendor lab includes several classrooms equipped with computers running Astra Linux and a broad range of software tools, including the BPMSoft low-code platform for business process automation and machine-learning models for data analysis and intelligent scenarios. These new competencies have been incorporated into dozens of educational programs.

A Real Industrial Environment

This is not just a laboratory, but a full-fledged industrial environment where students can model business processes, develop applied solutions, build their own neural networks and integrate them with software products, and gain hands-on experience with Russian software.

More than 1,000 students are expected to train at the lab each year. The facility will also be used by working professionals from industrial companies looking to upgrade their skills.

“We use a corporate training and applied learning model, so the choice of products from Astra Group, R7, BPMSoft, and 1C is no accident. It reflects the demand from our industrial partners—industry leaders such as Gazprom Neft,” said university rector Oleg Baulin. The university is also ready to develop and deliver new continuing education programs in this area, supporting the oil and gas sector’s large-scale effort to replace imported IT infrastructure.

Similar laboratories, created in partnership with leading IT companies, are opening across Russia.
