Autonomous Tram Labs Expand to New Routes Across Moscow
The aim of the move is to collect data to build high-precision digital maps for future driverless operations

Autonomous tram laboratories have begun operating on all 11 routes of Moscow's Krasnopresnenskaya tram network.
Maksim Liksutov, Moscow's deputy mayor for transport and industry, said all test runs are currently conducted under the full supervision of human drivers. At this stage, the trams are traveling across the network to collect data for a high-precision digital map that will serve as the vehicle's primary navigation reference during autonomous operation.
Russia's first autonomous trams entered full commercial operation in Moscow in September last year. The vehicles carry passengers in the northwestern part of the city on Route No. 10 between Shchukinskaya Metro Station and Kulakova Street.
