Telecom operator MegaFon has opened a high-tech laboratory at the Department of Communication Systems and Networks of the Volga Region State University of Telecommunications and Informatics (PSUTI) in Samara. The facility is primarily intended to train highly skilled engineers who will work on critical infrastructure sites. Its integrated hardware and software system can replicate the architecture of enterprise and telecom operator networks and test their performance under different configurations.

The new equipment can be used to simulate even the most challenging scenarios, including emergencies and failures that can occur in real-world operations. This will allow future specialists to develop skills in quickly switching to backup communication channels and carefully monitoring network equipment.

“By opening this training lab, we are making a strategic investment in the future of the entire telecommunications industry. The project will significantly narrow the gap between classroom learning and hands-on experience. Here, students will apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired and learn how advanced equipment works before encountering it at actual facilities. Having the opportunity to begin specialized training while still at university will make it considerably easier for young professionals to integrate into our company,” said Andrey Krishtofovich, MegaFon’s director of transport network development.
