PSU Researchers Create App for Modeling Networks and Engineering Systems

The application can solve a whole range of technological tasks.

Researchers at Penza State University have developed a web application designed for modeling networks and engineering systems. The solution is based on automaton programming. An automaton (a mathematical graph with vertices and edges) is used to describe network topology and is then converted into a reactive agent.

The application can be used to solve various tasks, including in the utilities sector.

"Engineers will be able to pre-calculate the throughput capacity of a collector or an individual node and assess the load on infrastructure. It will be possible to model, for example, the schedule of garbage trucks and the allocation of transport resources. And all of this before any real work begins," explained one of the developers, PSU master's student Sabir Kulakhmetov.

Specialists add that the new application addresses a serious problem. Existing software tools for network modeling are produced by foreign companies. They require licenses or are entirely unavailable for use in Russia.
