Answering Economic Pressure: Russian Companies Move to the Cloud
Russian businesses are increasingly relying on cloud-based resources. In the coming years, 44% of organizations plan to scale their use of cloud technologies. The dominant shift is toward hybrid models: around 70% of companies are combining public cloud services with on-premises infrastructure.

Innovation That Pays Off
These figures come from a new study by the consulting firm Yakov & Partners in collaboration with Yandex B2B Tech titled Cloud Technologies: Trends and Development Prospects. Researchers surveyed more than 200 large Russian companies across 17 industries and found that enterprises are expanding their use of cloud services while generating tangible financial returns.
The study shows that representatives of roughly half of the surveyed companies report that the financial impact of adopting cloud solutions exceeds 3% of EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization). This gain is significantly higher than the actual cost of cloud services. Among companies operating in digital sectors – IT, e-commerce, telecom, and media – the results are even stronger, with gains exceeding 5% of EBITDA. Notably, respondents say the primary benefit is not direct cost savings but improved scalability, greater data availability, and more reliable infrastructure.

Why Hybrid Is the Future
Nearly half of the companies participating in the study acknowledge that their cloud spending already exceeds 5% of annual IT investment. More than 30% plan to increase that share further. Experts expect Russian enterprises to continue expanding their use of cloud technologies in the coming years. When selecting a cloud service provider, customers place particular emphasis on platform quality and the surrounding ecosystem of services.
The hybrid model is the clear favorite. More than 70% of respondents use a combination of public cloud solutions and their own on-premises infrastructure. Adoption of PaaS (platform as a service) and SaaS (software as a service) reaches at least 65–66% of businesses. Over half of organizations prefer a hybrid setup that combines IaaS (infrastructure as a service), PaaS, and SaaS.

By using cloud services, Russian companies conserve resources, actively leveraging data storage and processing tools as well as developer platforms. Office applications and productivity tools are in especially high demand, alongside customer-facing software such as CRM systems and tools for marketing, sales, and contact centers. Companies with more advanced cloud adoption also tend to make greater use of AI-based solutions.
Security Comes First
The rapid shift by the business community toward cloud platforms developed by Russian providers is strategically important. Users gain access to convenient services that streamline everyday workflows, while large enterprises and public-sector organizations can operate within closed, controlled IT infrastructures that comply with regulatory requirements. This reduces risk and helps prevent sensitive data from leaving the country.

Over time, continued development of cloud solutions by Russian providers and developers could attract customers not only domestically but also abroad, particularly in markets where data locality and control are critical.
