Positive Technologies Launches Multi-Layer Email Security System

Positive Technologies has introduced a new system designed to protect corporate email, combining gateway filtering with advanced threat analysis to address increasingly complex attack vectors. The system is built on PT Sandbox (dynamic threat analysis environment) and the expertise of PT Expert Security Center (expert analysis system), combining the functions of an email gateway and a sandbox: it first filters spam, phishing and malicious attachments, then analyzes content in an isolated environment.

The product launch is significant for the Russian market, where email security remains a top priority. The cybersecurity sector continues to grow, driven by import substitution and stricter requirements for digital infrastructure resilience.

Strengthening Email Security Defenses

This development is particularly relevant for the cybersecurity market, large enterprises, government agencies, industrial organizations and the financial sector, where corporate email is widely used. At a global level, it reflects a broader trend, organizations worldwide are reinforcing email security as a critical layer of defense against phishing, malicious attachments and link-based attacks.

In Russia, the impact is both technological and security-related. Stronger protection of corporate and government email systems reduces the risk of data leaks, minimizes disruptions and helps prevent account compromise and fraud conducted under the guise of trusted organizations. The development of domestic solutions also reduces reliance on foreign products and supports technological sovereignty.

Domestic Growth Momentum

The primary opportunities for PT Email Security in Russia lie in the public sector, industry, finance, telecom and large enterprises. These sectors are frequent targets of cyberattacks. According to Positive Technologies, phishing attacks increased by roughly one-third in 2024, particularly targeting government institutions, industrial companies and IT firms.

Demand for the solution is expected to grow, driven by import substitution, rising attack volumes and increasingly sophisticated phishing techniques, ranging from QR phishing and HTML attachments to AI-assisted social engineering. The product is designed to address these challenges. It can be considered part of a comprehensive email security framework, offering a unified console, gateway filtering and isolated content analysis.

Its potential in international markets is more limited due to intense competition. The segment is well established, with major players such as Microsoft and Kaspersky dominating. However, Positive Technologies may find opportunities in CIS countries and the Middle East, where demand for independent and localized solutions remains strong. The most realistic scenario is continued growth in Russia, combined with targeted exports to friendly markets.

The Shift Toward Layered Email Security

For Positive Technologies, the launch of PT Email Security represents a logical continuation of its strategy to strengthen corporate email protection. In 2024, the company introduced PT Knockin, a service designed to test the resilience of email systems. The new product builds on that foundation, expanding into a full-scale protection platform. The rise of phishing attacks, along with the use of deepfakes and voice synthesis in 2024 – 2025, makes this move timely. The solution emerges as a practical response to evolving threats and increasing pressure on corporate infrastructure.

Both in Russia and globally, the corporate email market has long included solutions that provide multi-layer protection against spam, phishing and malicious attachments. Kaspersky promotes Secure Mail Gateway and Security for Mail Server, while Microsoft has set an industry benchmark with Defender for Office 365, including attachment detonation and real-time link analysis. PT Email Security enters not an empty niche, but a mature competitive landscape.

According to the Center for Strategic Research, 2025 saw sustained interest in long-term cybersecurity development in Russia through 2030. Against this backdrop, the launch of PT Email Security appears as part of broader market growth, with new product niches emerging and demand for domestic cybersecurity solutions increasing.

Defending a High-Risk Channel

The launch highlights how Russian cybersecurity professionals are strengthening defenses around one of the most vulnerable components of corporate infrastructure, email systems. As phishing, deepfakes and link- and attachment-based attacks increase, the market is shifting toward deeper layers of protection. At the same time, organizations are closing critical entry points that often serve as the starting point for larger attacks on businesses and government institutions.

In the coming years, several trends are expected to shape the market. These include growing demand for integrated solutions with sandboxing, link analysis and unified management consoles, as well as tighter integration with XDR, SOC, SIEM and antifraud systems. Another direction is the transition from traditional antispam tools to defenses against advanced phishing, BEC attacks, QR-based traps and scenarios involving generative AI.

The phishing-as-a-service market has evolved into a full-fledged industry with its own ecosystem. The number of threats and the level of attacker sophistication have both increased. The architecture of PT Email Security is designed to counter modern attacker techniques, including QR phishing, HTML attachments, short-lived domains and redirect chains. The solution operates through a unified console, simplifying security management and reducing incident response times
