Moscow Names Winners of Russia’s Largest IT Hackathon

Mayor Sergey Sobyanin highlighted AI tools for healthcare and urban management among the most promising innovations.

Moscow has wrapped up the seventh “Leaders of Digital Transformation” hackathon, now recognized as Russia’s largest IT competition. More than 11,000 participants from 89 Russian regions and 26 countries took part, competing to solve 20 tech challenges set by city departments and major companies.

“This is the country’s biggest competition for developers creating digital products for government and business. This year, it broke its own record — over 11,000 people registered,” said Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

AI That Filters Out Healthy X-Rays

The most notable innovation was an AI-powered assistant that automatically identifies chest CT scans showing no signs of pathology. The system quickly filters out healthy images, allowing radiologists to focus on complex cases that require medical attention.

Experts say the technology’s uniqueness lies in its practical focus on easing the healthcare system’s workload. By automating preliminary image analysis, the tool could speed up diagnostics, reduce physician burnout, and lower the risk of human error during large-scale screenings.

Out of 1,379 competing teams, 60 were named winners. They will have the opportunity to implement their solutions in real-world projects, contributing to the technological development of Moscow’s infrastructure and public services.
