Russian Med Students to Learn Anatomy Through 3D Holographic Tables
A new domestic digital platform brings immersive, interactive anatomy lessons to classrooms and smartphones alike.
At Surgut State University, medical students are now studying anatomy with the help of a Russian-made 3D digital anatomy table called Pirogov, developed in Samara. The interactive platform includes over 100 programs for exploring human anatomy and related medical disciplines.
Using the table, students can zoom in on muscles, bones, and tissues in three dimensions, examining the human body at a microscopic level. The software also syncs with smartphones, allowing learners to review materials and complete assignments remotely.
“The system enables students to study histology, as well as normal, pathological, and topographic anatomy,” explained Viktor Stolyarov, head of the Department of Morphology and Physiology at the university’s Medical Institute.
A Fully Local Solution
According to Olga Litovchenko, deputy director of the institute, one of the key advantages of the new platform is its flexibility and local support.
The Pirogov table is part of Russia’s broader push to replace imported educational technologies with homegrown solutions — and to make complex medical training more accessible, visual, and interactive for the next generation of doctors.
