Russia Develops AI Assistant for Aquaculture Farm Management

The system is designed to improve productivity when resources are limited.

Russian scientists, working with colleagues from Serbia and Cyprus, have developed an intelligent platform for managing fish farms. It can precisely monitor water quality, feeding schedules, and the condition of fish and aquatic plants. The technology combines data from sensors, predictive models and machine learning in a single system.

An AI assistant continuously analyzes data from all key components and provides users with recommendations, such as increasing the oxygen supply to the water or changing the fish-feeding schedule. The system does not change any parameters on its own. All decisions are made exclusively by people.

“The proposed tool will help fish farms use limited water resources more efficiently and improve their economic stability. In the near future, we plan to test the technology at aquaculture farms in Cyprus, a country with a well-developed fish-farming industry but limited water and energy resources. Optimization is particularly important under these conditions. Preliminary estimates indicate that our technology could reduce feed consumption by 10% to 15% without reducing aquaculture productivity, providing an economic benefit to participating farms,” said project leader Andrey Ronzhin, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor and director of the St. Petersburg Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
