An AI-based herd management system has been introduced at a livestock enterprise in Russia’s Lipetsk region. The digital assistant, named Arkady, can answer virtually any question about the herd and currently oversees more than 4,000 dairy cows.

According to Alexander Bachurin, first deputy CEO of the agricultural company, the domestically developed AI system makes it possible to monitor animal productivity and health. All data is fed into a unified cloud platform and remains available for ongoing oversight by specialists. The system integrates disease monitoring, vaccination records, animal condition tracking, and feeding management.

“We expect to receive clear, actionable recommendations — not just raw numbers showing what happened, but guidance on how to improve performance,” added Vyacheslav Koltakov, an expert in dairy farm automation.

Improved Results

The system processes data collected from a full suite of smart devices, including scanners, weighing platforms, and chips attached to the animals. It tracks multiple indicators, such as weight gain in calves, milk yields, and movement levels. Sensors immediately flag cases where a cow remains immobile for an extended period.

According to Igor Zabelich, director of livestock operations, the adoption of these technologies has improved reproduction and animal health indicators, while milk yields have increased.
