AI Adoption Soars in Russia’s Energy Sector
More than half of Russia’s fuel and energy companies now use artificial intelligence to increase efficiency and strengthen technological sovereignty.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping Russia’s energy industry. According to Evgeny Osadchuk, Director of the Artificial Intelligence division at the Digital Economy platform, over 58 percent of companies in the fuel and energy sector are already deploying AI technologies—up from just 29 percent in 2021.
Osadchuk spoke at the Belarusian Energy and Environmental Forum, highlighting that domestic AI solutions are cutting downtime, speeding up processes, and improving product quality. A new compendium of 63 best practices—selected from 300 use cases—illustrates how deeply AI has penetrated the industry.
Securing Technological Sovereignty
The most common applications of AI in the sector include decision-support systems based on data analytics and predictive modeling, as well as computer vision technology for analyzing and interpreting visual information.
Earlier, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev, speaking at the byteoilgas_conf 2025 IT conference for the oil and gas community, emphasized that the digitalization of the energy complex is the foundation of the country’s technological sovereignty. He underscored the importance of breakthrough innovations for the sector.
The event also featured new domestic software for seismic data processing and optimal field development planning, an updated IT landscape and digital maturity assessment model, and the concept of a unified data platform to standardize information flows and enhance the quality of analytics across the energy industry.
