Russia Bets on AI to Power Its Energy Future

Russia’s energy sector is rolling out more than 300 artificial intelligence projects, with algorithms now embedded in everything from power plants to oil rigs.
Russia’s Ministry of Energy says AI is becoming the backbone of its vast fuel and energy complex, optimizing more than 20 critical processes across electricity generation, heating systems, oil and gas, and coal industries. Deputy Energy Minister Roman Marshavin noted that “smart” systems are already predicting grid loads, preventing accidents, analyzing sensor data, and even helping to locate new deposits.
The push reflects Moscow’s strategy to modernize while balancing traditional industries with nuclear and renewable energy.
These plans were announced on the sidelines of the 15th meeting of energy ministers of the Asia-Pacific Cooperation countries.
Artificial intelligence is becoming an important tool for achieving this goal.
