Russia Deploys Its First 24/7 Environmental Monitoring System for a Mining Company

A new real-time digital monitoring complex now tracks air quality, radiation levels and noise at a Russian uranium mining facility

Real-Time Environmental Control

For the first time in Russia, a mining company has deployed a domestic digital environmental monitoring complex capable of operating around the clock. The innovative system, developed by Rostelecom, has been installed at production sites of Dalur, a uranium-mining enterprise in the Kurgan region.

The ATOM-RTK ecosystem consists of software and hardware units that record even minimal concentrations of chemicals in the air, as well as microclimate conditions, noise levels and radiation background. All measurements are taken automatically. Data flows into a unified interface, allowing environmental engineers to view real-time conditions at every site.

A New Standard for Industrial Safety

The solution has already completed all required certification. Scientific support for the project was provided by the Institute of Industrial Ecology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to Rostelecom, Dalur needed a system capable of autonomous, systematic data collection due to the specifics of uranium mining. The platform not only captures current environmental conditions but also accumulates data for accurate forecasting.

Vladimir Volkov, Vice President for Large Corporate Clients at Rostelecom, explained: “This approach will allow Dalur to expand the applicability of the environmental monitoring system and enhance modeling for environmental forecasting.”

In the near future, the system will be extended to include soil and water monitoring. Russian digital technologies are setting a new nationwide standard for environmental and industrial safety.
