Russia Introduces a New Standard to Protect Insurance Customers’ Data
A new Russian standard for data anonymization is strengthening privacy protections for insurance customers while allowing companies to analyze information without exposing identities

A Unified Standard for Secure Anonymization
Russia’s major insurer Rosgosstrakh has become the first in the market to deploy Sfera, a domestic system designed for secure processing and anonymization of client data. The solution allows companies to use information for analytics and service tasks without revealing personal identities or risking violations of privacy.
Sfera automatically masks identifying elements so that individual customers cannot be traced, while preserving the internal structure of records and all necessary relationships between databases. This enables anonymization throughout the entire data lifecycle — from operational services to analytical dashboards. Several large datasets within Rosgosstrakh have already been anonymized, with expansion planned across the company.
Replacing Risky Scripts With Industrial-Grade Security
Previously, data protection relied on fragmented, home‑grown scripts — an approach that often created inconsistencies, duplicated logic and weakened system integrity.
For customers, Sfera means stronger protection of personal data and a reduced risk of leaks. For insurers, it unlocks the ability to safely use large volumes of information for analytics, precise risk assessment and the development of digital products — all without complicating the infrastructure.
