Russia Launches Open-Source Cybersecurity Library for Industrial Enterprises

The new AI-based system detects threats in real time — and any company can use or adapt it for free.

Researchers at the St. Petersburg Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences have developed an open cybersecurity framework designed to protect industrial enterprises from digital threats. The system, powered by artificial intelligence, identifies potential attacks on computers and servers that control production processes — before they can cause damage.

After successful testing at several network companies, the software is now available to anyone who wants to use or customize it. The project’s core goal is to make advanced cybersecurity tools accessible to a wide range of organizations, from businesses to research institutions.

Open Innovation

“Our goal was not just to complete a study, but to create a practical result — an open library,” said Dmitry Levshun, senior researcher at the Laboratory of Computer Security Problems, in an interview with TV channel St. Petersburg. “Anyone interested in solving similar problems can take our work, adapt it to their needs, and continue their own research.”

The center’s team previously introduced a deepfake detection prototype capable of recognizing “face-swap” videos where a person’s face is digitally replaced. In the future, this technology could help prevent cyber fraud during video calls by analyzing hidden video parameters and detecting distortions.

By opening its research to the public, the St. Petersburg team hopes to accelerate cybersecurity innovation in Russia — and strengthen digital defenses across industries that rely on automation and data-driven technologies.
