Russia Rolls Out Digital System to Track Garbage Trucks Nationwide

More than 25,000 trucks are now connected to a real-time monitoring system, boosting transparency in waste management across the country.
Russia is rapidly expanding its digital control system for the transportation of solid municipal waste. According to the Russian Environmental Operator, information on more than 25,000 garbage trucks—nearly 100 percent of the country’s specialized fleet—has been entered into the federal system. About 18,500 of these vehicles regularly transmit location data via GLONASS, allowing real-time tracking, the agency reported.
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev emphasized that the introduction of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence and satellite monitoring, is making the entire waste management system more transparent.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Denis Butsaev added that the system also helps detect route deviations and suspicious stops that could indicate illegal dumping.
