ITMO and MWS AI Launch Laboratory to Advance Language AI Models
The researchers aim to make artificial intelligence more accessible to a broader range of users.

ITMO University and MWS AI have launched an online laboratory where researchers will develop new methods for accelerating, compressing, and training AI models. One of the project's main goals is to make artificial intelligence more accessible to a wider range of users.
Today's AI models perform well in languages such as Russian, English, and Chinese because they can be trained on large collections of written material. Low-resource languages, however, including Arabic and Kazakh, lack comparable datasets. Building AI models for these languages requires costly manual data collection, annotation, and processing, leaving them less well supported by existing AI tools. The new laboratory aims to address this gap.
