Kaspersky Helps INTERPOL Arrest More Than 1,400 Cybercriminals in Africa

The third edition of the operation brought together private-sector companies and law enforcement agencies from 20 African countries and the United States. Its primary targets included online fraud, ransomware and business email compromise (BEC) attacks. Investigators identified approximately 66,000 victims, with total financial losses estimated at $385 million.

Kaspersky experts provided technical analysis of botnet and DDoS attack infrastructure, along with information on phishing and malicious websites targeting users in Africa. During the operation, nearly 11,000 pieces of malicious infrastructure were taken down.

“No organization or country in the world can combat cybercrime alone, because it is inherently transnational. That is why Kaspersky actively works with partners around the world and shares its in-depth expertise in cyberthreats. We are proud to participate regularly in INTERPOL operations, building on our experience of successful joint efforts to combat cybercrime year after year,” said Yulia Shlychkova, Kaspersky’s vice president of global public affairs.

Investigations launched following Operation Serengeti III are ongoing.
