AI Takes Over Price Monitoring in Russian Region
In Crimea, the local statistics agency is using artificial intelligence to collect and analyze consumer price data directly from cash registers — replacing manual surveys with automated insight.
The Federal Statistics Service in Crimea (Krymstat) has begun using AI technology to track consumer prices by analyzing transaction data from retail cash registers. The system identifies goods even when their names are written differently across receipts — a task that previously required manual verification.
From Data Collection to Analysis
Baldina said the next step is to move toward streamlined, real-time data collection, allowing neural networks to automatically build dynamic datasets and perform statistical analysis.
The project reflects a broader trend in Russia’s public sector — replacing fieldwork with data-driven automation. By training AI to interpret unstructured retail data, agencies like Krymstat aim to improve the accuracy and speed of official statistics while reducing human labor.
