Smart Reverse Vending Machines Launch at Skolkovo
The machines automatically sort recyclable materials and reward users for participating.
EcoPoint has launched a demonstration network of reverse vending machines at Skolkovo. The machines accept recyclable materials in exchange for rewards. Seven units are currently in operation, with five installed outdoors and two located inside the Skoltech building.
The machines' key feature is an AI-powered automatic sorting system. The algorithms identify the type of material being deposited and direct it to the appropriate collection bin. The machines can sort paper, plastic, and aluminum.
The company also said one of the reverse vending machines operates entirely off-grid using a solar panel.
Users earn eco-points for recyclable materials they deposit. The rewards can be transferred to a bank card through Russia's Faster Payments System (SBP) or donated to charity.
