‎In Russia, AI Will Remind Cyclists to Follow Traffic Rules

‎Russia is rolling out a new AI-powered system that politely calls out cyclists who break traffic laws. The technology, developed by one of the country’s leading AI companies, is designed to make city streets safer and more predictable.

A Moscow-based tech firm, NtechLab, has unveiled a video analytics system that automatically detects traffic violations committed by cyclists. Using computer vision, the neural network flags common infractions such as riding on sidewalks where bike lanes are available, illegal parking, or crossing pedestrian zones without dismounting. When a violation is detected, the system responds with a polite voice message reminding the cyclist of the rules.

‎The idea is to make cycling more comfortable and safer in urban areas.

“This new product is a natural extension of our scooter rider monitoring solution, which we introduced in June 2025,”

said NtechLab CEO Alexey Palamarchuk.

‎According to the company, the technology works with all types of bicycles – including e-bikes and courier bikes — but excludes children’s models. Pilot deployment is planned in parks and other high-foot-traffic zones, where cyclist-pedestrian conflicts are most common.

‎Experts say this kind of solution could help build a culture of responsible riding and improve coexistence among different road users. If widely adopted, it may even reduce the number of cycling-related accidents in Russian cities, paving the way for smarter, more harmonious urban mobility.
