Russia’s GigaChat AI Will Oversee Drilling Operations in the Mining Industry

Sber’s neural network is being integrated into drilling rigs, boosting productivity and safety in one of the country’s most hazardous sectors.

GigaChat, the Russian-developed large language model created by Sber, is being adopted by the nation’s drilling equipment manufacturers. The technology will be embedded in a new generation of rigs built by the Russian Drilling Equipment Plant, each outfitted with remote monitoring sensors. The integration of AI aims to optimize performance while enhancing operational safety across mining operations.

The system will function as a 'smart dispatcher,' helping workers compile reports and analyze data from service departments, staff logs, and equipment sensors. It will generate actionable insights, assess performance quality, and detect anomalies—all while automating a wide range of routine tasks.

Field trials pairing GigaChat with modern drilling equipment have demonstrated significantly faster problem resolution, showing potential for broader application across industrial sectors. GigaChat is already proving its versatility elsewhere: in the medical field, it assists doctors by mastering core clinical tasks and acting as a digital assistant.
