Russia Issues Cybersecurity Warning After World’s Largest Data Leak

After 16 billion login credentials were leaked globally, Russian experts urge citizens to take immediate protective action.

In June 2025, cybersecurity specialists uncovered what is now being called the largest user data leak in history—roughly 16 billion login credentials, including those from services like Google, Apple, and Telegram, have surfaced online.

Russian cybersecurity expert Pavel Myasoedov told Lenta.ru that users should urgently change passwords—especially for widely used services like Gmail—and enable two-factor authentication to reduce the risk of account compromise.

He also advised extra caution when managing personal data and financial transactions. 'Given that multiple platforms were affected simultaneously, we may be facing an extended period of elevated risk,' he warned.

While the precise timing of the breach remains unclear, experts suspect a coordinated cyberattack. Patching the vulnerabilities may take time, and users are encouraged to remain vigilant in the meantime.
