ATOMDATA Presents Concept for Powering Data Centers With Floating Platforms
The concept was presented at the 70th General Conference of the IAEA.
ATOMDATA presented a concept for a new solution to power critical information infrastructure facilities at the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. The initiative calls for linking a coastal data center to a floating power unit equipped with two RITM-200M reactors with a combined capacity of 100 MW.
The model is designed to support the development of artificial intelligence technologies. Data centers would receive the electricity they need without placing additional load on the grid. A key engineering element of the data center would be a direct liquid cooling system using seawater.
“Data centers are one of the key elements of modern critical infrastructure. In the proposed solution, the data center is considered as part of an integrated system together with energy infrastructure and digital services, making it possible to address the development of national AI models and data storage and processing in a comprehensive way. Guaranteed power from clean energy, no additional load on the power grid, and efficient liquid cooling of computing infrastructure using seawater provide a reliable foundation for building sovereign digital clusters,” said Vidiya Zheleznov, director of special projects at ATOMDATA.
