Gazpromneft-Khantos has begun using autonomous vehicles for freight transportation at the Yuzhno-Priobskoye oil field. The technology can continue operating even when satellite communications and mobile internet connectivity are limited.

The trucks can carry up to 24 metric tons of cargo per trip. They operate in an “electronic convoy” configuration, with each truck independently following the lead vehicle's trajectory, maintaining a set distance, and responding to changing road conditions. An AI-powered control system processes data from LiDAR sensors and video cameras to operate the vehicles.

“Autonomous transport expands the capabilities of industrial logistics,” said Dmitry Kolupayev, CEO of Gazpromneft-Khantos. “These vehicles can operate on routes with less dependence on human factors while maintaining specified driving parameters. It is an effective tool for reorganizing the delivery of materials and equipment, improving vehicle utilization, and laying the groundwork for further development of autonomous technologies at oil fields.”
