Moscow Zoo Lets Visitors Watch Its Birds Live, Anytime

New webcams stream real-time footage of cranes, peacocks, and other rare species — part of Russia’s broader push to bring culture and science online.

The Moscow Zoo has launched a live video stream from its “Japanese Courtyard” aviary, allowing anyone to watch its exotic residents — including Japanese cranes with their chick, ocellated turkeys, and green peacocks — without leaving home.

According to the city’s Department of Economic Policy and Development, cameras installed in the enclosures now broadcast daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with recordings of each day’s feed also available for replay.

More Than Just a Livestream

The project isn’t only about watching animals in real time. On the zoo’s website, viewers can also explore photos, facts, and educational materials about the featured bird species.

The livestream initiative was developed under Russia’s national program “Data Economy and Digital State Transformation,” which aims to expand digital access to public institutions — from museums and libraries to parks and zoos.

For Moscow’s bird lovers, that means the capital’s most graceful residents are now just a click away.
