Rosatom has opened its second flagship laboratory under the Novyye atomnyye i energeticheskiye tekhnologii (New Nuclear and Energy Technologies) project. The facility is based at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

The laboratory will focus on computational modeling of nuclear power plant processes and systems, a key technology underpinning the nuclear industry's digital transformation. At the center of the facility is the Virtual Nuclear Power Unit, a software suite and collection of simulation codes that models the operation of power plant equipment and systems, performs multiphysics simulations, and analyzes a wide range of nuclear power plant operating conditions.

Rosatom expects at least 1,000 students to complete training at the laboratory by 2030. The facility will offer eight educational programs.

Rosatom's first flagship laboratory focuses on robotics technologies. The state corporation plans to open three more facilities of this kind before the end of the year.
