Russia Launches Interactive Road Safety Portal for Drivers and Pedestrians

Using augmented reality, a new digital service in Tatarstan makes it easier to check a car’s history, access government services, and even learn traffic rules through gamified tools.

Authorities in Tatarstan have unveiled “Safety,” an interactive digital portal for drivers and pedestrians. The platform uses augmented reality to simplify vehicle history checks and make studying road rules more visual and accessible. It is one of the first projects of its kind in Russia developed by government agencies.

According to local outlet ProKazan, no special app is required. Users simply scan a QR code posted on information boards and point their smartphone camera at the cover of a Russian passport. A menu with eight useful sections appears on the screen. Through the portal, drivers can check a car’s record in police databases—including accidents and restrictions—and access links to check tax debts, book government services, or connect to the Gosuslugi.Auto mobile app.

Child safety is also a focus. The service integrates with the children’s portal “Sakla,” which teaches traffic rules in a game-based format. Parents can also find information about police job openings or receive updates from the volunteer search-and-rescue group LizaAlert.

The project is designed to improve public awareness of road safety and behavior using modern digital technologies.
