Russia has introduced a digital system designed to significantly cut the time required to issue biometric documents and reduce the workload on government agencies. At the 9th MFC Forum, the company Analitichesky Tsentr, with participation from Rostec, showcased the Portal Rodina (Portal Motherland) crypto-bio booth, built for automated collection and processing of citizens’ biometric data.

Fully Domestic

The system runs on Russian software and domestically produced components, which account for more than 80 percent of its hardware. In fully automated mode, the booth takes a photograph, captures fingerprints, records a voice sample, performs ultraviolet document checks, and transmits data to government information systems via secure channels. According to Rostec, deploying these booths in MFCs could more than halve the processing time for biometric international passports at the initial stage.

In Every MFC

The use of crypto-bio booths is expected to speed up citizen services and ease the burden on Interior Ministry migration units. Over time, the booths are planned to support a broad range of services via the Edinaya Biometricheskaya Sistema (Unified Biometric System), serving both Russian citizens and foreign nationals.

Beyond Russia, the “smart” crypto booths are slated for deployment in Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, with plans to expand the project’s geographic reach further.
