Russia’s Power Giant Proposes Unified Innovation Platform for the Energy Sector
Rosseti, one of the world’s largest power grid companies, wants to unite government, science, and industry under a shared tech ecosystem to accelerate energy innovation.

At the Russian Energy Week forum in Moscow, Rosseti executives called for the creation of a national innovation platform to coordinate R&D efforts across the country’s vast energy sector. The initiative was presented by Evgeny Lyapunov, Deputy General Director and Chief Engineer of Rosseti, during a panel discussion on sustainable energy development attended by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
Building a Shared Energy Ecosystem
Lyapunov said Rosseti is already rolling out intelligent power grids, automated substations, and a corporate knowledge management system to integrate cutting-edge materials and digital tools. The company’s Scientific and Technical Council, which includes university researchers and corporate partners, has been instrumental in testing and adopting new technologies. Rosseti also runs an energy startup accelerator, EnergoProryv, in partnership with the Skolkovo Foundation.
Still, Lyapunov argued that innovation in the energy industry can’t succeed in isolation.
The proposal underscores a growing trend in Russia’s energy policy: linking traditional infrastructure with digital transformation to strengthen efficiency, sustainability, and technological independence.
