Sber Launches Payments via Thai QR Code for Russian Tourists
Sber has enabled payments through Thailand’s national QR system directly in the Sberbank Online app, automatically converting purchases into rubles and removing the need for cash.
Users can scan the Thai QR code at more than 6 million merchant locations across the country - including restaurants, taxis, souvenir shops, and supermarkets. The app displays the transaction amount in both Thai baht and Russian rubles. Thailand becomes the eleventh country where Sber clients can go cashless.
“In the first quarter of 2026 alone, the number of QR payments made by Sber clients abroad increased fivefold compared with the total transaction volume for all of 2025,” the bank said.
More than 100,000 clients use the service each month. Vietnam remains the leading destination for QR payments among Russian users, with the service launching there in the fourth quarter of 2025.
