Russians in India to Pay by QR Code via Sber's Second Wallet

Sberbank has launched the Mony wallet, part of the UPI One World payment system, for clients in India. It can be topped up through SberBank Online, and users can pay at stores and services across the country by QR code.

Previously, the bank's partner was the Cheq wallet. Travelers now have a choice of two services licensed by the National Payments Corporation of India and operating under the supervision of the country's Reserve Bank.

To start using Mony, users need to download the app and register. Activation requires a passport, a valid Indian visa, and a phone number. Registration is completed in India at a short in-person meeting with a service representative. The balance is topped up in the Payments section of the SberBank Online app: users select "To another country," then "India" and "Phone," and enter the number linked to the wallet.

"The launch of a second alternative e-wallet option strengthens the cashless payment infrastructure for Russians in India. Thousands of our clients already use the Cheq wallet, including tourists and Russians who live in the country long-term. Top-ups are available in SberBank Online and take just minutes. We expect the new Mony service to be no less in demand among both tourists and business travelers, as interest in India is growing rapidly," commented Ivan Nosov, Director General of SberIndia.
