More than 40 stations on the Gorky Railway have been equipped with a remote station management system, covering sites in the Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, and Kirov regions, as well as the republics of Tatarstan, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, and Mordovia.

Each “smart station” is fitted with an LCD screen displaying train schedules and other information, along with video surveillance cameras. Last year, the system became available at stations in Gorokhovets, Vyazniki, Murashi, Krasny Uzel, Alatyr, and Bua.

On-Demand Access

According to Russian Railways, the service is designed for small communities where stations operate on limited schedules. Entrance doors open and close automatically, with a dispatcher monitoring operations remotely around the clock.

If a station is closed, passengers can still access the building by pressing a call button at the entrance, prompting the dispatcher to unlock the door. Dispatchers can also remotely update timetable displays, control indoor temperature and lighting, play announcements, and answer passenger questions via an audio link.
