InterPensioner Launches a “Digital Village” to Support Older Adults

The new app combines everything from secure family chats to an integrated marketplace, making it easier for older users to stay connected, access services and avoid the isolation that often comes with aging in a digital world.

Russian startup InterPensioner, a resident of the Skolkovo Foundation, has launched what it describes as the world’s first “digital village” – an app designed for older adults and their families. The super app brings together communication tools and everyday services tailored for Russian-speaking seniors. It includes a secure family chat and video calling, an emergency SOS button, an online club and digital literacy school, a marketplace for goods and services, and a daily motivational newsletter called Pochta Doveriya (Mail of Trust). The platform is built to reduce social isolation, loneliness and the digital divide, while helping older users remain continuously connected with loved ones.

The pilot rollout has already brought together more than 1,000 families. Developers now plan to scale the app by 2027 into CIS countries, Europe, the United States and Israel. As populations age globally, demand for tools that combine emotional support with practical assistance continues to grow. The new platform is positioned to address a broad range of challenges faced by seniors, from emotional concerns to technical barriers and everyday practical needs.

A Stronger Sense of Security

The app’s international ambitions may be realistic, given that there are currently no widely adopted global equivalents offering the same integrated approach. While “smart village” initiatives in Europe and Central Asia have demonstrated how digital infrastructure can improve quality of life and strengthen citizens’ sense of security, InterPensioner focuses specifically on the needs of older adults in a mobile-first format. The technological roadmap includes potential integration of artificial intelligence, telemedicine and smart assistants.

Life once revolved around the village square. Today that square is the smartphone. Our ‘digital village’ is a space where everything needed for convenient remote care is available – from an online doctor to instant communication with loved ones. We remove boundaries and restore a sense of unity within families

Partnerships with healthcare providers and public support programs could further streamline the user experience. If state and social services are integrated, the platform could evolve into a comprehensive digital infrastructure for Russia’s “silver generation,” offering a single access point for communication, services and emergency support.

Expanding Access to Assistance

Digitalization of rural and underserved areas remains a global priority. International organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and others have launched “digital village” initiatives to expand access to services and information in rural communities. At the same time, European interest in digital platforms supporting older adults is steadily increasing.

Russia is also developing its own IT solutions aimed at improving digital literacy among seniors, including online courses and training programs. Government-led digital service projects are expanding, with some operating through the Gosuslugi (State Services Portal) platform, which simplifies access to public services and benefits.

Building a Support Ecosystem

The “digital village” concept positions the app as a unified service environment combining communication, assistance and commercial offerings for older adults. It could gain traction domestically and, as an export product, in countries facing similar demographic pressures. Such projects can balance social value for users with commercial viability for developers and partners. They also present clear opportunities for collaboration with public social support and healthcare programs.

Based on this trajectory, the project’s creators appear well positioned to pursue expansion into international markets. Additional features are likely to be introduced over time, including expanded medical support, AI assistants and deeper integration with Gosuslugi. In the long term, the app could evolve into a broader ecosystem of digital services for older adults, effectively forming a new segment within IT-driven social support industries.
