Perm Researchers Develop Digital Twin for Arctic Oil and Gas Equipment
Researchers at Perm National Research Polytechnic University have developed a mathematical model that will help engineers accurately calculate the heating requirements of oil and gas equipment operating in the Arctic.

The new model accounts for both weather conditions and equipment operating characteristics, helping prevent both freezing and overheating. The project is being carried out for NPO PermNefteGaz, a manufacturer of equipment for the oil and gas industry.
"The end users will be oil-producing companies, but the computational model itself is intended for engineering design firms and equipment manufacturers. It enables engineers to accurately specify heating system parameters for specific operating conditions," said Nikita Kostarev, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering Design and Technology at Perm National Research Polytechnic University and Candidate of Technical Sciences.
According to the researchers, deploying the model will reduce the energy required to heat equipment, lower the risk of unplanned production shutdowns, and extend the service life of machinery operating in harsh Arctic conditions.
