MegaFon continues to replace imported telecommunications equipment with domestic alternatives. The company recently announced the successful modernization of part of its backbone network using 400G transceivers from Russian manufacturer Neoros. It was the first deployment of the technology in MegaFon's network.

According to the operator, the new hardware differs from conventional approaches. Instead of requiring separate and costly DWDM equipment, the transceivers can be installed directly into routers. The upgrade increased network capacity by a factor of four while reducing deployment costs sixfold compared with traditional architectures.

The pilot link connects MegaFon's data centers in Moscow, which handle large volumes of consumer, operational, and cloud traffic.
