Neural Networks “Bring to Life” WWII Hero Oleg Koshevoy

The creators of the Rodina geroev (Homeland of Heroes) project have produced an AI-generated video in which Soviet WWII underground fighter Oleg Koshevoy appears to address modern audiences directly.

In the video, Koshevoy recounts his story – how schoolchildren in the occupied city of Krasnodon formed the anti-fascist underground group Molodaya gvardiya (Young Guard), disrupted the occupiers’ plans, and distributed leaflets. He emphasizes that he was “only 16” at the time of his death. In 1943, he was arrested, but even under torture did not betray his comrades.

Today, AI is helping remind residents of Irkutsk who Koshevoy was. One of the busiest streets in the city’s Leninsky district bears his name, yet many residents pass through it daily without knowing the story behind it. The project’s creators say modern technology can make historical memory more immediate and personal.
