The BELAZ Virtual Reality Lab has opened at Kuzbass State Technical University (KuzSTU). It gives future professionals an opportunity to learn how to operate and work with heavy mining equipment in detail.

The virtual lab also allows students to practice assembling, disassembling, repairing and maintaining mining haul trucks. Six core training modules are currently available: the motor wheel and final drive, front and rear suspensions, front axle, rear axle and dump body hoist mechanism.

In the virtual environment, students can study each maintenance and repair procedure, the location of fasteners, the tools used and the specific requirements for working with individual components.

“We are recreating real-world workflows. Students can see how a haul truck is built, which components need to be unbolted, and what fasteners and brackets are used. We are developing interactive modules that closely replicate real working conditions. This helps students understand how each procedure is performed and practice individual steps until they become second nature,” said Dmitry Yeliseyev, deputy chief designer for digitalization of mining equipment at BELAZ.
