Russia has presented what developers describe as the country’s first robot equipped with telemetriya (telemetry)—a control system operated through VR goggles. The machine can replicate a human operator’s movements in real time, while the user sees the robot’s surroundings through a virtual-reality headset. The robot was demonstrated at the Tekhprosvet Vkontakte (VK Tech Education Expo) exhibition.

The machine was developed by the company IT Imperial. Telemetriya refers to a technology for remotely collecting, analyzing, and transmitting data. The developers say they built the robot with the ability to stream a 360-degree video feed.

Robots Everywhere

The robot is equipped with an autonomous navigation system that can operate without an internet connection. Using this system, the robot moves along a predefined route while detecting and avoiding obstacles. The technologies are integrated so that if an unexpected situation occurs during movement, a human operator can redirect or stop the robot using VR goggles.

The platform can be used for any robots based on the Robot Operating System class. According to the developers, the market has already shown interest in the technology and is ready to order the new control system. Russian robots are currently used in delivery services and to optimize operations at industrial facilities and logistics centers.
