Researchers at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI have developed a system for rapid diagnostics of electrically actuated valves used at nuclear power plants, the university’s press service said.

According to Stanislav Gordeev, a lead engineer at MEPhI’s Institute of Industrial Nuclear Technologies, the system allows operators to assess the condition of thousands of control components directly on site, without removing them from service.

Rapid Diagnostics

The portable device records actuator parameters when connected to the power supply cabinet. The data is transmitted to a tablet or computer, where dedicated software performs a comprehensive analysis and delivers an assessment of the equipment’s technical condition.

A key advantage of the new system is that diagnostics can be carried out without shutting down or relocating equipment. The solution has been successfully tested at the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant.
