Russia Links Stratosphere to Ground Using 5G for the First Time
An unmanned stratospheric balloon has transmitted video to the ground over a 5G network in Russia for the first time in an experiment conducted under the Advanced Research Foundation's Barazh project.

According to foundation representatives, the results showed that stratospheric platforms can serve as pseudo-satellites and form hybrid 5G networks. The same technology could also provide a ground-based 5G NTN control link for such systems.
Earlier, in February, the foundation launched the Barazh-1 unmanned platform for the first time. It can carry up to 100 kilograms of equipment at altitudes of up to 20 kilometers. In August, Yan Chibisov, head of the foundation's Center for Aviation and Space Technologies, said similar platforms could replace communications satellites in hard-to-reach areas of Siberia and the Russian Far East.
