Millions of Russians Embrace Digital Medical Certificates

Electronic health records are reshaping Russian healthcare, cutting paperwork for doctors and making treatment more personalized and accessible.

In Russia, electronic medical certificates have become part of everyday life. According to Moscow’s statistics, more than 14 million have been issued in recent years, a sign of how quickly the system has been adopted. The benefits are clear: paperwork for doctors has been drastically reduced, allowing them to devote more time to patients.

Clinic visitors benefit as well—not just by saving time but by gaining full access to their treatment history. Patients can see their complete medical picture at any time, making the healthcare system not only more convenient and transparent but also highly personalized.

Parents have also embraced the change. Children’s sick notes are now sent directly to schools and kindergartens online, without parental involvement. Teachers automatically receive information about excused absences, while medical certificates required for admission to schools or daycare are also processed digitally. No more carrying paper slips to extracurricular activities.

These and other services are rapidly expanding, not only in Moscow but across the country.
