Russia Rolls Out Telemedicine Monitoring for Cancer Patients

A new digital platform in Moscow now allows doctors to monitor chemotherapy patients in real time, marking a major step in the expansion of telemedicine in Russian healthcare.

Moscow has launched a large-scale project for remote support of patients undergoing chemotherapy. The pilot initiative already covers more than 1,600 people from the city’s oncology centers, representing a new phase in the integration of advanced digital technologies into Russian healthcare.

According to Anastasia Rakova, Moscow’s deputy mayor for social development, the service is built on the Unified Medical Information and Analytical System (EMIAS). Its primary goal is to ensure continuous communication between patients and their oncologists between treatment cycles.

Through the EMIAS.INFO mobile app, patients regularly complete questionnaires about their health status, prompted by automatic notifications. The system analyzes responses using a color-coded risk indicator to flag potential side effects or complications. Doctors are required to review the survey results within one business day. If alarming symptoms appear, physicians initiate urgent telemedicine consultations with the patient.

All data is stored in a centralized EMIAS registry, where each doctor has access to a personalized list of patients along with their survey history and consultation records.
