Most Russians Support Teaching Schoolchildren to Work with AI

A new survey shows broad public backing for integrating artificial intelligence into classrooms, with parents and teachers alike seeing it as essential for digital literacy.

More than 70 percent of Russians support the idea of teaching schoolchildren how to use artificial intelligence both responsibly and effectively, according to a VTB survey conducted in August 2025.

Adults view AI as a tool for developing modern skills in children—digital literacy, critical thinking, analytical ability, and accountability.

One-third of respondents suggested integrating AI lessons into existing subjects, one-quarter favored creating a dedicated course, and 22 percent supported offering AI as an elective.

When asked what role AI should play in schools, 42 percent named automating teacher routines such as lesson planning, reporting, and scheduling. Helping students search for information ranked second at 41 percent, followed by creating interactive lessons and games at 40 percent.

Nearly half of respondents (46 percent) reacted positively to students using AI for homework. At the same time, 22 percent worried it could reduce children’s independence, while 23 percent said the effect would depend on proper implementation.

The survey polled 1,500 Russians aged 18 to 65 in cities with populations of over 100,000.
